For Your Consideration: SWSX 2024 Panel Picker— Music Heals: Restorative Spatial & Hi-Res Audio

Austin, Texas, August 14, 2023— Music has been proven to heal and uplift the human spirit. The Music Heals panel intends to explore this topic at SXSW 2024. Tim Degraye, co-CEO of HED Unity, the company that launched the world’s first wireless, lossless headset, will sit on the panel with three music and innovation experts to discuss how hi-res music integrations can be harnessed to provide immersive and interactive therapeutic experiences. The panel of experts each have a background in the music and innovation worlds, which can offer unique insights into how hi-res audio can be harnessed for deeper healing. The panel will feature co- founder and co-CEO of HED Unity Tim Degraye, digital entertainment developer Ty Roberts , Sphere of Sound founder Jelmer Althuis, and music producer/musician Nick Rosen who will discuss how new music integrations can support established music therapy practices.

 

About Tim Degraye

Tim Degraye began his unconventional career path in 1988 as an advertising executive at Saatchi and Saatchi in New York. Tim joined Modem Media during the dawn of Internet advertising to produce websites for MasterCard and Delta Express Airlines. In 1993, Tim jointly founded the first private oil venture in Kazakhstan. His love of music and audio recording led him to Full Sail School of Recording Arts; he graduated with an audio engineering degree. He has scored two films and produced several others, including: Knock Knock (2015) directed by Eli Roth and starring Keanu Reeves and Ana de Armas and Above Suspicion (2021) with Emilia Clarke and Jack Huston. Tim’s unique perspective on how people use technology in their daily lives is a result of his varied experience. With his partner Liliane Huguet, Degraye conceived, designed, and created the first computational audio headset, appropriately named UNITY- as the listener becomes one with the music.

About Ty Roberts

Ty Roberts has shaped the digital entertainment world since he first began developing games in the 1980s. He was part of the team that created QuickTime; and launched the first interactive albums at ION for artists including David Bowie. In 1998, Roberts co-founded Gracenote; he served as Chief Strategy Officer for 18 years. Gracenote’s music and TV metadata powered services are offered by major CE and Audio companies. After selling to Nielsen in 2016, Roberts was named the first CTO for Universal Music Group, driving partnerships for Hi-Res streaming and developing immersive experiences such as Dome. He has acted as strategic advisor for Jay-Z's Tidal and MQA Ltd, a celebrated HiFi audio company. He also co-founded FanTracks, which offers a transformative live-streaming experience.

About Jelmer Althius

Jelmer Althuis is the founder of The Sphere of Sound, audio director at VRelax and sound designer at Aku.World. With a passion for audio and technology, Jelmer has dedicated his career to creating immersive audio experiences for a variety of next-generation media. An experienced audio professional, he has a strong background in sound design and audio production. In 2017 he fully immersed himself in spatial sound design for VR and Art applications in particular. In 2018 he joined the VRelax team as audio director, where he mainly focused on the psychological effect and the influence of spatial sound on well-being. He strongly believes in the added value of spatial audio experiences for eHealth & well-being as well as for the digital arts and web3 applications.

About Nick Rosen

​Nick Rosen is a well-known music producer and musician. He has worked extensively with Diane Warren, producing music for the Grammys, the Oscars and numerous galas. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist who can perform on the violin, viola, cello, upright bass, guitar and synths, he has worked as a session musician with over 50 artists and performed on many film scores, including Lost and Star Trek. In addition to his incredibly impressive career as a musician and producer, Nick is the Founder of Reson8, an innovative provider of sound frequency health tech for precision wellness.
